Pornhub is a “social lubricant”, says porn actress Belle Delphine.
The website is “a safe place” where users can share their “private fantasies and stories” without the risk of “being ostracised” by their peers.
She told the Today Show that it’s “truly liberating” to share “the truth about myself”.
The “bio” site also allows users to anonymously comment on posts, but the site says it is “not a place for anonymous speech”.
“There’s no need to say anything if you don’t want to,” Delphide said.
“The thing that I really want people to see is that there are people out there that are really passionate about sex, and they love the experience.”
Pornhub says it does not condone “exploitation, slavery, violence, harassment, bullying, or abuse”.
It also says it “does not condone harassment, discrimination, or stalking”.
Pornhub’s chief executive, Matt Weinberger, told Today Show’s Steve Inskeep: “We don’t allow the porn industry to do this.
We do not condone the use of any forms of exploitation or slavery.
We are all in this together.”
Porn industry watchers say the sites comments do not add up.
“We can’t believe that they would do this to Belle, who is such a talented person,” said Victoria Boulanger, founder of the US-based Sexlab, which studies online pornography.
“There is nothing to support what they say.
It’s like, ‘Well, you should be grateful for this, but then you should probably keep quiet about this, and maybe do something about it, because you might get arrested.'”
Pornhub has already come under fire for failing to disclose that its site does not have the legal protections for the privacy of its users.
A report published last year found that the company was unable to tell users how they could contact the company and was unable “to explain how they would comply with a request for access to personal information.”
PornHub has not responded to a request from Business Insider for comment.
