The awards ceremony will now take place at a different time on Sunday night in Los Angeles, and will air on ABC.
The first time the Oscars were held, in 2012, the event was cancelled, and the nominations were delayed.
The ceremony has also been criticised for failing to take place in time for the World Cup, and for being too short.
Last year, it was announced that the Oscars would be held on August 8, and it is understood that the awards ceremony was delayed for two weeks.
It is the first time since the awards were awarded in the 1960s that the ceremony has not taken place on Sunday.
The event was originally scheduled to take up three days, but a number a complaints about the venue and its seating.
The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, which organises the event, said in a statement that it was “deeply disappointed” that the event had been cancelled, as the city had a huge presence at the Oscars and other awards ceremonies, and because of the large number of celebrities who have been invited to attend.

The announcement came just hours after the Hollywood Police Department released new CCTV footage of two men allegedly stealing from a movie theater during the Oscars ceremony.
The video shows a man running into the lobby of the Hollywood Cinema Club on Sunday afternoon.
The man can be seen on CCTV grabbing a box of popcorn from a kiosk.
The man then walks outside the lobby and picks up a box and a silver box, which he then throws into a trashcan outside the building.
The other man can also be seen running into a restaurant at the back of the building and grabbing some food from the trashcan.
The suspect who stole the food can be heard saying: “I’m gonna put this on the wall.”
The footage also shows a woman who was at the theatre that day telling the police she was not aware of the incident.MTV said the film was not shot at the theater but was shot at a hotel in Los Altos.MVCAB spokesperson Kristina Ecker said the organisation has had discussions with the Los Angeles Police Department about the incident and will be sharing information with them.”
